Throughout the weekend, Tamás Gender Junior consistently battled among the frontrunners during the third round of the WSK Super Master Series in Lonato. The VictoryLane Karting driver secured a 3rd place in the Qualifying and ranked among the top in the heats, before relentlessly executing overtakes in the Final amid intense on-track battles.
The 2025 season of the WSK Super Master Series karting championship continued at one of the sport’s most iconic venues, the South Garda Karting circuit near Lonato del Garda hosting its third round on the legendary track.
In the karting world, this track is as indispensable as Silverstone, Barcelona, or Monza in every racer’s career. Its well-known layout intensifies every battle, especially in the Tamás Gender Junior category of the OK class, where competitors boast several thousand race kilometers of experience.
Notably, Tamás Gender Junior consistently set top-tier lap times throughout the weekend. His impressive form was evident already during Friday’s free practice, where he clocked in 6th in Free Practice Series 1. Later, in the Qualifying session, he posted a 3rd-place lap in his group and ultimately finished 5th overall.
In the opening race of the weekend - the A-B Heat - he ended up in 7th. Still, he commented on the session with satisfaction: “Friday went very well; not only did I manage a 3rd place in Qualifying, but what’s even more encouraging is that I stayed with the frontrunners throughout. I even led the classification for a while, so I’m thrilled to have started the races from a strong grid position!”
Saturday’s action kept building. During the Warm Up session (Even Numbers), he finished 5th while recording the fastest time in Sector 3. In the A-C Heat - where rain began falling at the start - he secured 4th place. Although a mechanical failure forced him to retire from the A-D Heat despite running in 2nd, his earlier stellar performances kept him safe, as he ended up 21st in the overall tally and advanced to the Prefinal.
“This was one heck of a race! I finished 4th in the second race at Lonato. The day was packed with excitement, a drizzle of rain, back-and-forth overtakes, and strong point-scoring! Thanks to my pace, I stayed with the leading pack throughout the race,” the young driver remarked enthusiastically.
Sunday’s sessions brought further challenges. In the Prefinal, right at the start, Tamás Gender Junior’s starting line got stuck, causing him to drop several positions. However, on the wet track he managed to regain his original grid spot.
The Final delivered a fantastic contest: starting from 20th on the grid, he climbed up to 11th by the end of the first lap. In the third lap, though he was bumped at Turn 3 and fell back to 16th, he still managed to claw his way back to 12th despite the heavy rain.
“It was an incredibly action-packed race weekend, with excellent pace and constant battles!” he exclaimed. “Many thanks to the VictoryLane team for the well-prepped kart, to Kart Republic and IAME for the fantastic setup, and to Zele Bau for the support!”
The next round—the fourth of the WSK Super Master Series—will take place in Franciacorta, Italy, from March 5-9, 2025.
