Significant Progress at a Special Venue
Gender Tamás Junior continued his first full season in single-seater racing at the legendary Imola circuit, famous for its place in Formula 1 history. Competing in the nearly 50-car international field of the Italian Formula 4 Championship, the 16-year-old Hungarian driver demonstrated the results of months of hard work through improving race pace, strong starts, and successful overtakes.
At the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, drivers also had to cope with extreme heat, with air temperatures reaching 36°C during Sunday’s race. The intensive physical and professional preparation completed over the summer proved especially valuable in these conditions, and Tamás handled the challenge well.
Lap Times Confirm the Progress
One of the most important takeaways from the Imola weekend was the race pace. Gender Tamás Junior set a fastest race lap of 1:48.113, just 0.647 seconds slower than race winner Kenzo Craigie’s best lap of 1:47.466.
In such a highly competitive international field, even tenths of a second can mean several positions. The data from Imola therefore provides an important indication that the work completed over the past months is increasingly reflected in Tamás’ race pace.
Strong Starts and Aggressive Racing
One of Tamás’ strengths this season has been his starts and first-lap positioning. At Imola, he immediately adopted an attacking approach, gaining three positions on the opening lap before continuing to battle with the drivers ahead.
Alongside strong starts, racecraft is becoming increasingly important: recognizing opportunities, choosing the right moment to attack, and converting one-lap speed into consistent race pace. In his first full Formula 4 season, steady progress is also visible in these areas.
A promising race unfortunately ended early due to a technical issue. A problem with the left-rear wheel forced Tamás to retire before the finish. However, this did not change the key conclusion of the weekend: based on both the lap times and his performance in race situations, the gap to the front continued to shrink.

The 2026 season is Gender Tamás Junior’s first full year in single-seater racing. The 16-year-old is the only Hungarian driver in the Italian Formula 4 Championship’s international field of 49 competitors. Imola marked another important step forward. Improving race pace, strong starts, and successful overtakes showed that the work being done behind the scenes is increasingly translating into performance on track.
The next objective is clear: turn that progress into results.
